Hello! I am Tenzin Lhawang, authorized officiant of Humanist Canada and I am licensed by the Office of the Register-General under the Marriage Act of the Province of Ontario.

As a secular humanist marriage officiant, I believe the marriage ceremony and wedding day is one of the most important day in your life. Your ceremony is uniquely yours to create and personalize and I will work with you to make your wedding memorable. 

How do I obtain a Marriage License in Ontario- A marriage license can be obtained from your local municipal office. You must apply in-person with 2 pieces of government issued identification for each person getting married.  Examples of identification include government issued birth certificate, valid passport, valid drivers license, Canadian Citizenship card, record of immigrant landing. etc.

The marriage license is valid for 3 months from the date is issue. So you have to be married within these 3 months.

The cost of marriage license in Toronto is currently $160.

How do I obtain a marriage certificate- A marriage certificate is a legal record of a marriage.  As the officiant who performs your marriage, I will send the completed and signed marriage license to ServiceOntario, so the marriage can be registered. You can then apply for your marriage certificate either in-person, by mail or online

Please note that currently it can take upto 10-16 weeks for the marriage to be registered currently in Ontario as per the Register General's website. 

How can we verify if you are you licensed-You can look up my name with the database maintained by the Office of the Register General of Ontario to ensure that I am indeed licensed to perform your wedding ceremony. You can type my last name-LHAWANG in the link below to verify.

Can our family member or friend perform our wedding ceremony- If desired, your friend or family member can definitely participate in the ceremony. However, as the officiant, I will have to perform the legal aspects to solemnize the wedding.

What can we expect from you- We can meet virtually, chat via email, text or call at your convenience. This will give us a better understanding of how you want your ceremony. I will work with you to create a wedding script that is reflective of you as the couple. Multiple edits can be done and I will work with you for edits up to 24 hours before the wedding. You will receive the printed wedding ceremony script in a binder as a keepsake. I will be there at least 30 minutes before your wedding ceremony and I will ensure that I meet with the emcee, DJ, and photographer and go over the ceremony with them.
